Read 001 of 2022 | The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker

I'm trying a new thing where I want to post more reviews of the books I read in realtime on here!

The Keeper of Night was my first read of 2022 and it was our Patreon book club pick of the month for December 2021. I was super late getting around to finishing this partly because it was a bit slow to start but once it got going it was an interesting read full of mystery and twists. It gave me total Spirited Away vibes and I loved the Japanese yokai and mythology woven in.

Unfortunately this one didn't quite live up to my expectations because I felt the worldbuilding was lacking and the main character didn't develop as much as I would have liked. However, it was still an enjoyable read that really touched upon the main character's experience with being biracial and it had a killer ending which was both deeply startling but also strangely fantastic.

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a slightly macabre and dark read with interesting mythology and heartfelt side characters.

Will be going more in depth with my thoughts in my wrapup on YouTube at the end of the month so make sure to turn on notifications for my channel ✨
